FORWARD
​​​The main waterway in Forward is the Monongahela River.

Forward Township, named after U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Walter Forward in 1841, is characterized by multiple small tributaries, a rail yard, and farms. Many, but not all, of the tributaries in Forward are considered ‘impaired’ by the PA Department of Environmental Protection due to high metal content from Acid Mine Drainage. The entire area is ‘undermined’, which means that mine operations were historically active and industries excavated the underground resources such as coal. The close proximity to a major river and railroad line made the transportation of goods easier.​​

​​​PA American Water and the the Township of Forward are the drinking water and sewage treatment providers in Forward.
​PA American Water has multiple customer assistance programs.
If you know you will have trouble making a payment on time, call 1-800-565-7292. ​If a member of your household has a medical condition that requires water services and you know you will have trouble making a payment, call 1-800-565-7292. ​If you have a Protection From Abuse (PFA) or other court orders then you can have protections placed on your water service. To receive Protection from Abuse assistance, call 717-550-1538.​​​​​​​​​​​​
