LOCAL WATER CONDITIONS
During wet weather, conditions can change on area rivers, streams and creeks. In addition to the hazards of fast-moving water and debris washed from land, sewers can overflow where they connect to the ALCOSAN collection system. These overflows can be a source of bacteria that may be harmful if swallowed or exposed to an open wound. This Sewer Overflow Advisory Key (SOAK) alerts the public when overflows in the ALCOSAN collection system are impacting area waterways during ALCOSAN’s NPDES permit summer reporting period, May 1 to October 31. Signup for SOAK Alerts here. This service allows you to opt-in to receive notifications via text messaging and email when overflows of diluted untreated wastewater are affecting water quality in the rivers.
